I never have free time. For real.
Most of my time, I am in school or doing homework. Or hanging out with Brett in the few minutes of spare time I have. I even bring my homework when I am hanging out with him and have to spend at least a couple hours a night or more on doing homework; it is so NOT fun..
Anyways, here is a minor update of what I've been doing for the past month and how things have been going.
Walter's has officially shut down on Exchange Street as of September 26. We are also officially out and working towards the new place (the lease ran out Sept. 30th). We have heard rumors of people looking to put a dance club or some kind of bar into that location, but just rumors for now.. Will be interesting to see what ends up in there!!
So, Walter's is hoping to reopen for November 1 at the new location, 2 Portland Square. I haven't actually seen inside yet but I have heard a lot of great things about it :-)
Moving along.
School is going well so far. I got a 100 on my first French quiz which I am pretty happy about :-). Our second quiz is next Wednesday. I really like French and the professor is very cool; he actually grew up in France and came over here when he was doing studies to become an English teacher in France, go figure right? :-P
My Information Technology class is kind of silly. So far we have learned about wikis, the history of the internet, mashups, social networking, html, xml and rss feeds, and i think that covers it. She told us the first day that attendance isnt required and people slowly stop coming as the semester progresses.. I am totally beginning to see why. For one, there is no incentive to go to class; we have groups for group projects and each group has to do a student notes page about what happened in class. So tthere is one class you do have to go to. Then, on another lecture, you have to come up with 2 questions from either the readings or the student notes and also write a reflective blog post through a blog account. It's just a silly class, I pretty much have a basic understanding of all of the information I am learning anyways. Hopefully it will be an easy grade.. I have my first test on Monday. (another plus side is brett knows all this stuff so i can recruit him to help me study :-D )
Introduction to Microeconomics is a really fun class actually, not necessarily because the information is fun, but my teacher is really cool.. Probably one of my favorite professors this semester if not my favorite. She is young and really funny so it helps material that isn't super interesting seem a little bit more entertaining than it really is. I have my first test in her class today and I am a little nervous but I think I feel pretty comfortable and confident in the material.
Organizational Behavior is pretty cool btu can get kind of boring. We go over some pretty interesting concepts, but sometimes it just drags on because he lectures. Don't really need to take notes though because evreything we are graded on we do outside of class. We have to do chapter reading (which we are doing a pilot program for an online book so thats cool, plus the book was free!) and then a quiz over the chapter. Then, we also have a journal that we do entries for over every chapter (which sometimes we might need to bring in a response to a question for discussion but not often). We also get graded on class participation. Before thanksgiving, we basically finish all the book material and then we have to work with a group on a certain topic to create a tutorial, where you have about a half hour to present material in a new and interesting way.. And thats what we spend the time after thanskgiving break until the end of the semester doing, so it will be stressfree and just kind of relaxing after that :-D
My online class is a lot of work but I am really enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. Triple Bottom Line Marketing and Sustainable business. It is really interesting and even though I disagree with some of the companies and their reasons for making the switch to green, there are other things that are more important like the actual act of switching. It is hard to explain, but I enjoy the class for the most part. it can get very very tedious though!!!
Other than that, not a whole bunch else has been going on.. I had been working fridays and saturdays but now that walters is closed, I have those days off for like a month, unless they let us come in and help set up or whatever.
Hope everyone else has been doing well. If i think of anything exciting thats been happening ill post again.. but i think my mind is shot blank for fun things.. I havent even been able to read leisurely since before school started!! :-(
